2015 Ukrainian Curling Championship was held in Kyiv

The first Ukrainian Curling Championship took place in Kyiv. The competition was held at the Katok Ice Arena of Dyvosvit-Plus from December 14 to December 25, 2015. Five men’s and four women’s teams took part in the bonspiel.

The competition was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Curling Federation.

Five men’s teams – Kyiv Region, Slider, KFD, Dreamtown and 25 competed from December 14 to December 18, 2015.

10 games were played during round-robin. Two pairs of team were defined to compete for bronze and gold medals of the tournament.

Team Dreamtown beat team KFD by 5-0 in Bronze Medal Game at the Ukrainian Curling Championship 2015. Team Slider beat team 25 by 6-4 in the men’s final of the bonspiel to become the first-ever curling champions of Ukraine.

Four women’s teams – Allatra, Berehynya, Oranta and Lotus entered the tournament on December 21, 2015. Six games were played during round-robin and two pairs of semi-finalists were determined.

The final day of the competition got around the prizewinners of the Championship. Team Lotus won the bronze medal beating team Berehynya by 7-6. And team Allatra beat team Oranta in Gold Medal game by 10-2.

According to President of the Ukrainian Curling Federation Alex Perevezentsev, this first-ever Ukrainian Curling Championship is an important step for promotion of curling in Ukraine, as at least two ice arenas are interested in maintaining ice for curling and holding tournaments that will help the federation to bring to life so long awaited success of curling in Ukraine.

Note: Curling is a Winter Olympic Sport, and it was included in the programme of the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan.
